Every once in a while, one only needs to squint to see the past in Durango. And in October of 2023 looking into the canyon took us to the 1950's where we found 476 leading a mixed train led by 476 with sister 473 spliced in the middle. As part of the 100th anniversary of these fine machines, Up to Silverton, the train was ran as one, but down from Silverton to Durango the trains were split due to operating rules on double-heading downhill. Luckily, Tacoma to Rockwood is uphill when going south, and the train was recombined for our benefit.
