The engineer of an eastbound coal load provides a friendly wave as his train prepares to duck under US20 west of Van Tassel in far eastern Wyoming. Predecessor Chicago & North Western's western arm, the Cowboy Line, passed through this lonesome country for many decades. When a new route to serve the booming Powder River Basin coal mines was needed in the 1980s part of the Cowboy Line was incorporated into the new route. This is the east end of that rebuilt portion. An old piling bridge on the abandoned route is seen above the first car.
