The Old And The New. On the left, New York Transit Museum R-6-1 1300 (Pressed Steel, 1936) provides a contrast to the new R211T. On Saturday, October 14, 2023, one of the four R211T five-car sets ordered from Kawasaki (NYCT 4045-4049) was on display at 2023 Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA NYCT Subways Family Day at Coney Island Shops. This design is a variation of the currently in service R211A that introduces the idea of open gangway cars to the modern fleet, basically cars without end doors in between the five-car sets allowing passengers to move between cars. While this design has been implemented as a standard in some cities around the world and has been previously used in New York City in smaller fleets like the BMT Multi-Section cars, the largest order of which was the Triplex/D-Types, it is still being assessed for its compatibility with the system and has not entered revenue service.
