The SD-9 828 was the first C&S unit to get the Q system red scheme, having been rebuilt at La Grange the previous month and repainted in the new colors. In October 1962 828 was assigned on the Leadville-Climax branch. Before going to this high altitude assignments, it was fitted with a huge snowplow and other modifications.
