San Francisco Municipal Railway (MUNI) operates a fleet of old PCC cars down Market Street to Fisherman's Wharf – a great way to travel in this, one of Debbie and I's favorite cities! (We ended up here unexpectedly, but appropriately, as this was just two days before our 42nd anniversary, and we honeymooned in "The City" back in 1981!) Many of these cars were purchased from Philadelphia PA's SEPTA, and repainted into liveries from various transit agencies that, at one time, operated these streamlined trolleys around the USA. MUNI car 1008, however, is an original MUNI PCC, purchased from builder St. Louis Car Company in 1948, and restored to its original appearance (which is far superior to MUNI's later, 1970s-era paint scheme!). The car is seen on The Embarcadero, making one of its stops to pick up passengers. Muni's PCCs were equipped with doors on each side, unlike many PCCs in other cities. It is a colorful scene this afternoon, with a lot of tourists milling about looking for a restaurant for dinner, or shopping. Everything is even more colorful thanks to the many flags celebrating Pride Month here in the "City by the Bay"! (San Francisco, California – June 17, 2023)
