Remarks & Notes

Last light at Tallman. Just minutes before sunset, a local freight highballs toward Lebanon, OR, passing through the tiny hamlet of Tallman, with perhaps 3 miles left to go in its journey. This stretch of track runs northwest out of Lebanon and is pretty much a straight shot to nearby Albany, where the Albany & Eastern interchanges with Class II Portland & Western Railroad. Loads destined for Class I railroads would generally transit on this line. This is not where you'll typically find Santa Maria Valley #205 doing passenger excursions. Those are generally run on either the Mill City or Sweet Home Branches, which extend northeast and southeast out of the AERC's base of operations in Lebanon.
