Remarks & Notes
The CB&Q originally built across the Missouri Rive back in 1880. The Burlington and Missouri River Railroad had reached Plattsmouth in 1870 while working west from Creston towards Lincoln. The CB&Q would purchase the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad in 1875. In 2011 BNSF started the process to build a new bridge next to the existing one to allow for more traffic thru this single track area and take heavy traffic off the existing old bridge that was built in 1880. In 2013 this new 1600 foot long and 50 feet high bridge was opened for business. The BNSF now uses the old bridge as a siding for lighter traffic, and to park trains like this empty. Amtrak #6 is back on the move out of Oreapolis, now 55" later due to poor BNSF planning and a westbound ZCHIDEN coming west 30 miles out at the start of the delay. The highway bridge to the left is a toll bridge to get across the Missouri, $1.75 for a car.
