Remarks & Notes
The Bonnet Carré Spillway is a flood control operation in the Lower Mississippi Valley, located in St. Charles Parish, LA. The spillway allows floodwaters from the Mississippi River to flow into Lake Pontchartrain as flood control. The spillway was constructed between 1929 and 1931, following the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. Today CN and KCS have massive wood bridges across this vast area. Here a Convent bound coal train rolls over the 1.3 mile long bridge as they make their way west on the Baton Rouge Sub less than 20 miles from destination. The CN also crosses this spillway on the McComb side, which was rebuilt and opened on 11/23/20.
