An A-B-B set of E.M.D E-7 units lead Southern Pacific train Number One, the westbound Sunset Limited, up the eastern side of Beaumont Pass, in the early 1950s. It is only a few minutes out of Palm Springs Station, heading into the steepest part of the climb. In less than three hours the Sunset will glide into the impressive Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal at the end of its 2069 mile run from New Orleans, Louisiana. Photo by Southern Pacific Railroad Publicity Department (Robert Hale) from my collection but edited slightly for RP.net.
