When Guilford jettisoned the Delaware & Hudson, the D&H was left woefully short of reliable power. The court-appointed operator, New York, Susquehanna & Western, barely had enough power to operate its own trains, so a lot of ex-BN SD45/F45/SDP45 leasers showed up, such as the trailing unit on this northbound train at Harpursville, New York. In another six months, twenty CSX-financed B40-8’s would show up to help ease the crunch.
