Nothing says "The '70s" like Alco C415s on the Southern Pacific, and Ford Pintos! Spending the night at Anaheim Junction on a clear April 1973 evening is SP 2404, one of ten center-cab switchers built by Alco for the SP in late 1966. The SP spared no expense when it came to lighting on their engines, as almost everything had Gyralight warning lights in addition to their headlights - and red Emergency Gyralights, too, that illuminated when the locomotive made an emergency stop. These C415s were built with the extra-height cab options, in order to improve visibility for the crews.
