"Old Connections at New Lots Ave"
A Manhattan bound L train departs New Lots Avenue station on the BMT Canarsie Line passing a former connection to Long Island Rail Road's Bay Ridge Branch. This track served as one of Subway's connections to the national rail network, allowing the interchange of supplies and new railcars. The track became obsolete with the construction of New York City Transit's Linden Shops, which includes a connection to the Bay Ridge Branch and both subway divisions.
There are currently only two connections the New York City Subway has to the national rail network. The first at Linden Yard/ Shops which is used to interchange supplies such as stick rail and ties. New York & Atlantic Railway serves this connection. The second is located in Bay Ridge off of the BMT West End Line via The South Brooklyn Railway (operated by NYCTA) & NYNJ Rail. This connection is mainly used for delivery of work train and maintenance of way equipment. |
