Something no longer seen on passenger trains today are the wisps of steam that, on cooler days, enveloped much of the train. Amtrak SDP40F 503, powering San Diegan 770, is clearly equipped with a steam generator for train heat as it makes its stop in Fullerton, California, on a cool Halloween morning in 1974. In cold weather, that steam certainly made getting on board the train very inviting! (October 31, 1974)
