| Delaware Lackawanna SC-7 shoves a cut of cars toward the frac sand terminal in Simpson, PA. The engineer has notched out the throttle a bit and the consist has responded in typical Alco fashion. The train has just cleared Pike Street in Carbondale, and is passing a location was once known as Lookout Jct. This junction was created in 1899 when the original D&H Gravity Railroad between Carbondale and Honesdale was converted to a conventional steam-powered railroad. It was at this location that the Gravity Railroad was connected to the rest of the Delaware & Hudson system. This circuitous line over the Moosic Mountains would be abandoned by 1931. The abandoned right of way extending southeast from this location is still visible today. |
