Getting an over/under shot anywhere is a tough task in itself but in the coalfields, its almost impossible. At Speers Ferry, VA, the NS Appalachia District (bottom) and the CSXT Kingsport Subdivision (top) run side by side along the Clinch River for a few miles. Until NS shutdown operations at Carbo, it was common go see a NS train on CSX’s tracks and CSX on NS tracks since both railroads share trackage rights on each others tracks here. T722 from Loyall (bottom) and T478 from Shelby (top) roll through Speers Ferry on a beautiful fall morning. Now to buy a lottery ticket.....
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
