Remarks & Notes
A Delaware & Hudson Penn Division detour train begins the journey north to Binghamton, having reversed direction after entering the former Erie Jefferson Division at Jefferson Junction. The portion of the D&H main line between here and Carbondale was considered part of the Penn Division, but it had trackage rights on the Erie Jefferson division. The Jefferson Division between Carbondale and a point a few miles south of here, which was best known for the grade over Ararat, was abandoned in 1981, when the D&H purchased the DL&W main between Scranton and Binghamton. A few months after this view, when the Belden Hill tunnel enlargement was complete, the remainder of the Jefferson Division and the northern portion of the Penn Division to Nineveh were abandoned. This route had been maintained for dimensional loads, but was no longer needed.
