The 1979 Pacific Railroad Society "Mountain Outin" passenger special, with Amtrak SDP40F 518 and Amtrak 517, is rolling westbound towards Bakersfield through Cable, when suddenly Cotton Belt 9295 came roaring around the corner with a heavy eastbound manifest. I am taking this photo from the open baggage compartment door next to the vestibule. A great way to view Tehachapi Pass freight train action, even though sometimes it got to be a close encounter.
