Once part of the historical collection in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Union Pacific EMD SW10 No. 96 notches it up while switching some passenger cars on October 9, 2008. UP No. 96 started life in 1950 as a SW7 and was rebuilt by UP’s Omaha Shops into SW10 No. 1821 in 1982, joining the “Heritage Fleet” in Cheyenne in 1993. Recently needing some work and no longer wanted, the locomotive was to be auctioned off in October 2016 at East St. Louis, when it was removed from auction and donated to the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation in Portland, Oregon, for preservation.
