Diamond no more An eastbound Keokuk Junction Railway freight passes the former crossing of the Burlington Northern/BNSF Lewistown Subdivision (running from Yates City to Vermont, Illinois) at Canton, Illinois, on April 7, 2016. Reportedly, the last train to operate over this part of the line was in 1999, with the diamond removed in the spring of 2000. Sixteen years later, the signal and crossing gate (smashboard) still remain, as KJRY GP20 No. 2003, along with FP9s Nos. 1752 and 1750, haul two cars picked up at Bushnell back to Kolbe past the now silent diamond.
