During the first half of 2015, H&MC acquired two 1970s-vintage GE units, a marked shift from the EMD switchers which previously worked this shortline. Since its career with Southern/NS ended, the 3986 has spent nearly twenty years floating around to various shortlines in and around Alabama, including the Pine Belt Southern and most recently the Sequatchie Valley. At the time of this photo, the unit was in the process of finally losing its NS identity and being repainted into H&MC orange and black.
