Three Seaboard SDP-35s lead Extra 1106 South across the "Original" Norfolk Southern Railway diamond at Boylan Interlocking, Raleigh, NC on the way to Hamlet Yard, NC . Raleigh Tower is out of view just behind the locomotives. We are looking southeast towards the then Southern Railway yard at Raleigh ahead and to the right. The Boylan Avenue truss bridge is long-gone, replaced by a more elevated concrete bridge and in the distance, the Martin Street viaduct has many years since been demolished.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
