Original Norfolk Southern Baldwin AS-416 1617 idles on the turntable lead at Glenwood Yard. NS AS-416s 1616 and 1617 had higher hoods than the other NS Baldwins to accomodate steam generators and dynamic brakes (neither feature was optd for by NS). The 1616 and 1617 also had GE electrical equipment while all of the other NS AS-416s were equipped with Westinghouse equipment which caused some operational problems whenever the units were MU'd. NS normally made an effort to operate the 1616 and 1617 alone or in tandem with each other.
