This shot isn't quite what it seems. There isn't about to be a fatality. BR pacific no. 71000 Duke of Gloucester is working a morning midweek service on the East Lancashire Railway. Since it was the first train of the day, the signalman for Rawtenstall rode on the train. Therefore, the train had to stop short of the level crossing so that the signalman could open the gates. Here we see the signalman, who has just disembarked, walking towards the crossing while "The Duke" waits in the background. |
