I may be the luckiest man around today. I was given a private guided tour of the Hejaz Railway at Amman, Jordan as the guest of Mr. Mahmoud Al-khazaleh, the Director General of the Railway. He spent over an hour with me in his office telling me all about the line, its history, current status and plans for the future. After that it was an "Access all areas" guided tour of the whole site. I went everywhere; Station; Loco workshop; Carriages; Stores; Turntable; Museum; Royal train - the lot! Here we see 2-6-2 tank engine no. 61 at rest inside the workshop. This loco was built in Belgium in 1956. Many thanks to all the team who made me so welcome. They also asked me to encourage people to go and visit the line. Believe me, where else can you travel through the desert by steam train? Go out there, you will not be disappointed!
