Remarks & Notes |
One of several half century old centercabs that provide the diesel power for the NHVR. 399 was built for the US Navy in 1943. The NHVR acquired its four mile stretch of line from the Southern in 1982 and began operations in 1984. New Hope Valley is, on paper, actually a historic railroad name as this was the original charter to build the line around the turn of the century, but it was actually constructed by the Durham & South Carolina in 1905-06. The D&SC was operated as part of the old NS which folded into the SOU. The four mile remnant operated today is actually part of a 1974 realignment that was necessitated during the building of Jordan Lake.
