Remarks & Notes |
This 42 year old section of rail has survived four different railroads, The New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail and is still in service on main track one at mile post 205 on the Chicago Line for Norfolk Southern. At one time the Lackawanna Mill of Bethlehem Steel was the 4th largest in the United States but in early 1983 all came to a grinding hault with the termination of all steel making processes due to the importing of steel and the aging mill itself. Leaving the city of Lackawanna in shambles and some 7300 people without a job. |
