The lights of a mixed freight coming down the hill illuminate the exhaust of the helpers pushing their train up and over Crawford Hill.
Crawford hill is a great place to see hard working locomotives spue exhaust and clouds of sand from the sanders.

The rain continues to fall hard as the clouds slowly start to break just enough for the last rays of the setting sun to shine through in a pinkish orange glow.
Note how the striping, lights, and colors of the passing train line up with the stationary locomotive. BNSF 9918 waits for it's turn to the Powder River Basin as a loaded coal train passes.
UP 5901 rounds the last part of the triple track S-curve and blows out a little exhaust.
The entire train can be seen as I look down on Big Ten Curve.
You can see the elevation this train has come down as the lead locomotives pass by the last cars of the train still on the mountain side.
The new North Platte Golden Spike Visitor Tower is now open. From the tower you can view the North Platte engine facilities and yard operations.
