The glow of the setting sun is being put out by the gorgeous canyon walls. What a great area to visit and watch the trains twist back and forth along the rivers and through the canyons.
After just passing a slow ordered track restriction, the locomotives throttle back up to track speed. Unit two was already smoking badly besides having the throttle notched up.
The mountain rises in layers above a late Amtrak train headed towards Denver. Even the smoke can not escape the towering mountains.

With the amount of coal that needs to be moved daily, track work continues as do the trains.
These good looking clouds were the beginning to a sunless, rainy day in the Powder River Basin.
The headlights reflect off the soaked ballast and wet railhead as two trains head in side by side through the rain.
The landscape around Scottsbluff is beautiful and amazing, especially as the sun rises with great textured clouds as a dark backdrop.
