Having made a successful return to Roanoke the night before, N&W 611 is now back in charge of its excursion train as it crosses the James River on SR rails.

Yes, that is the James River and that is the old C&O main. Who wouldn't chase on this blazing hot day. And best was I got Dad out with me and he really enjoyed it, much to my surprise.

In nice light and cool morning air, the Independence Limited crosses above Bramwell, WV enroute from Bluefield, WV to Portsmouth, OH.
While photographing the 1218 on an excursion run to Columbus, Ohio, I happened upon this 1951 Chevrolet along the track. It certainly made for a more interesting photo.
