This one is a year into Seaboard Systemand still unaltered by company barbarians, as most were.

On 12/29/1982 the Seaboard System came into being. This brought some unbesmirched out of towners to the yard in those early days. Here is an all L&N consist.

The yard was a rather ragtag place in a bad sign of town but we never had any trouble taking pictures.

Each one of these appeared to be a little different and were prized catches.

Back when Montgomery had GM&O, CofG, WofA, SCL and L&N this was such a great place to watch trains. The black scheme was getting rather rare so this was a good catch.

Very nearly at the end of its journey, 7173 sits on the arrival at Palmerston North, waiting entry to the yard after bringing train 545 down from Whareroa.

Bearing a number from a numbering scheme that just never fully materialized this unit shows evidence of participation in the great coal boom of the period.
