Seeing this P&W westbound freight on the Shore Line was an unexpected treat this day.

Acela Express or not, this train isn't moving all that quickly as it rattles through the interlocking at Branford.

An eastbound Acela cruises through the marshlands east of Branford. The young egret in the bottom of the picture doesn't seem fazed in the slightest.

I didn't realize until I got home and viewed this picture that this unit was a vintage GP35, most rare these days. This unit started out life as Norfolk & Western 236, hence the high short hood. ... (more)

Even though they've been in service for a few years, this is my first glimpse of the former CN GP40-2Ws in service on GTI. This train will soon head west toward Hoosac Tunnel and New York State.

Since MBTA doesn't goes as far west as Springfield, I have to assume this very shiny unit was on its way back from a rebuild. Comments?
