Leaving Montreal, Amtrak's Adirondack uses the Victoria bridge to cross the Saint Lawrence, which includes this unique feature, a junction allowing traffic to diverge around the lock on the seaway. This allows one of the lift bridges on either side to remain lowered and in use for trains, both double-tracked. Note also the steel plating on the upstream face of the bridge pillars for protection against drifting ice during winter, and the concrete extension of the original pillars when the structures for the seaway were added.
