Remarks & Notes |
South American Locomotive Company.
Empresa de Ferrocarriles Ecuatorianos (EFE) locomotive no. 169 and an unknown Tren Ecuador observation car are seen sitting with other equipment in storage at Estación Chimbacalle in Quito, Ecuador. 169 is an Alco DL560C 6-axle locomotive that was one of 10 to arrive in the country in 1968 for the line from Durán to Quito. It and its siblings were built by license builder Euskalduna in Bilbao, Spain, and 169 is one of only two that have not been scrapped. Currently all railway services in Ecuador are suspended due to pandemic closures and financial losses, leaving an uncertain future for Tren Ecuador and their tourist excursions. |
