Remarks & Notes
Ge 4/4 II # 621 and # 630 of the Rhaetian Railway in multiple control are crossing the large Langwies viaduct between Litzirüti and Langwies on the line Chur-Arosa, as train 6422 from Arosa to Chur. The 284 meter long and 62 meter high viaduct with a main span of 100 meter is part of the narrow-gauge Chur-Arosa railroad line. It leads directly behind Langwies station from the lower end of Unter Wis in a southwesterly direction to the southeastern end of Mittlerer Prätschwald and crosses the Plessur and the Sapüner-Fondeierbach. The viaduct is by far the largest railway bridge on the RhB. As a cultural asset of national importance, it is one of the best-known bridges in Switzerland and attracted worldwide attention as the first concrete railroad bridge of this size. It was built between august 1912 and july 1914 for the then independent Chur-Arosa Bahn (ChA), which was taken over by the Rhaetian Railway in 1942. For the falsework of the main arch, 800 cubic meters of logs from the nearby forests were used. The huge timber fan was another imposing work of the Trin master carpenter Richard Coray.
