Remarks & Notes
A quick lesson in ALCO C-415s

American Locomotive Company's C-415 roadswitchers were offered with several variations, the most noticeable were the cab heights: Southern Pacific (2400-2409), Chehalis Western (684) and Columbia & Cowlitz (701) ordered them with high-cabs, the medium-height cabs were specified for C-415s purchased by Rock Island (415-424), Spokane Portland & Seattle (100-101) – as well as the appropriately numbered demonstrator ALCO 415 – and, as seen here, a tight-clearance industrial cab option, which appeared on only a single C-415, Monongahela Connecting Railroad 701 (seen here as part of the collection of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania). MCRR 701 was also equipped with ALCO’s high-adhesion trucks (also found on C-415s built for SP&S, CLC and CWWR), while the Demonstrator, RI and SP units rode on AAR Type-B road trucks. MCRR was donated to the museum in April 1992. It is hard to tell here, but this locomotive was delivered in a greenish-blue and yellow scheme, and (I believe) was repainted into a dark green and yellow scheme in the 1980s.
