Former Amtrak EMD SDP40F No. 635, rebuilt by the Santa Fe at the San Bernardino Shops into SDF40-2 No. 5254 in 1985, rests at the locomotive facility at Corwith Yard near Chicago, Illinois, on February 9, 1991. By this date, Santa Fe made further modifications to the tight front platform access with the notches cut into the side of the nose.
