In the mid-1980s, Burlington Northern took delivery of two orders of leased engines to help with their motive power needs: 100 SD60s leased from EMD’s Oakway Leasing (OWY 9000-9099) in 1986 and 100 Dash 8-39BEs leased from General Electric’s GE Rail Services (LMX 8500-8599) in 1987. One year later, in October 1988, LMX 8554 was found lounging around in McCook, Nebraska.
