Lehighton Bicentennials 5 - Arriving in Lehighton, looking for an Erie-Lackawanna bicentennial unit in helper service, I instead found an eastbound train lead by a D&H bicentennial unit stopping for a face-to-face meet with a westbound Conrail train. After a short time, the sought-after helpers rolled down from a location out of sight at the west end of the yard, and coupled to the head end of the Conrail train. Because of the positioning of the locomotives, a good shot of the EL unit was not possible. With the EL bicentennial unit leading, the Conrail train headed westward. I elected to stay with the D&H train in hopes of doubling back and catching the EL unit on the mountain. Here the Conrail caboose has cleared the interlocking, and the D&H train starts moving. Epilogue - At the time of the photo, I was not yet plugged into the local railfan grapevine. Years later, while showing this slide, one of the "old guard" of the area commented, "You should have been at the west end of the yard to get the meet with us!"
