To the casual observer passing the Cargill grain elevator in Devore, California, this appears to be a Union Pacific local delivering more hopper cars. In reality, these are BNSF Railway diesels - they only two on the system painted in UP colors! BNSF 1322 and 1323, both PR30C diesels, were teamed together for local X-SBDSBD1-21A, an empty grain train originating and terminating in nearby San Berndardino. BNSF 1322 is ex-PRLX 3004, nee-CP SD40-2 5603. BNSF 1323 is ex-PRLX 3005, ex-PRSX 5647, nee-CP SD40-2 5647. Progress Rail was so confident that Union Pacific would purchase these locomotives after extensive testing that they were painted in UP's well-known Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray. But UP didn't bite, and they ended up being purchased by BNSF instead.
