It's 5:48 am at Intermediate signal "Boiler House", just east of C&O's "Riffe Scales". The moon has set, allowing for a sky full of stars to fill up the sky. The codeline still stands in use on CSX's Alleghany Subdivision, allowing the CSX HK Dispatcher in Huntington, West Virginia (previously Jacksonville) to line signals in this remote region, nestled deep in Appalachia. The signal is lit, indicating a train is approaching from the east, on its downhill trip from Alleghany Summit, nearly 30 rail miles away. The train will soon reach its crew destination from Clifton Forge to Hinton and will be recrewed and ultimately continue west toward the Coalfields of West Virginia. The Boiler House signal has approximately one year left before its removal from service, with CSX beginning the first preparations of signal replacement in Hinton and points east.
