Remarks & Notes
New build A1 pacific no. 60163 Tornado passes Parkside while working the Royal Train on 4th February 2009. On board were the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall travelling from Preston to Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, where the train drove straight into the museum yard. The Museum was originally Liverpool Road station, Manchester. This is the oldest railway station in the world. A few yards back from the location of this photo is where the world's first railway fatalaty took place. In 1830, William Huskisson, MP for Liverpool, was struck by the Rocket as he wandered over the tracks on the opening day of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. His train had stopped for water and he and the other passengers alighted to have a look round. he was struck by Rocket travelling on the other line and was killed.
