Double Rare
With inclement weather expected, the MBTA loops sets in Boston so a locomotive is set up to lead the first inbound train of the day, better able to handle snow and debris than a cab car. That operation lined up with a Worcester Main Line shutdown west of Framingham for CP-44 track work in Worcester, where MBTA 1129 was assigned over the weekend. When the backwards set in the layover yard developed mechanical issues with its head-end power generator, 1129 was conveniently tacked on after finishing its work duties. The Monday morning after, now with no weather expected, this rare doubleheader ended up leading train 510 into Boston. Once 510 got downtown, the set was looped, 1062 was pulled, and 1129 ran solo for the rest of the week.
