New to the “Berg.Strecke” exhibition by SBB Historic in the renovated Erstfeld steam shed from 1883 is the small E 2/2 # 11 steam locomotive from the Gotthard Railway, which was built in 1881 by SLM in Winterthur under factory number # 236. After completion of the Gotthard Tunnel, this locomotive was used to transport mail between Göschenen and Airolo from January 1, 1882, even before the ramp sections came into operation. The locomotive has a Brown articulated lever drive. It was sold to von Roll Eisenwerke in 1890 and served as a works locomotive in Choindez and Klus until 1934. Later, it was displayed as a monument at Wassen station, then at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne. It is part of the Dr. Ernst Dübi collection and is now on loan to Erstfeld.
