The Erie Railroad's Moodna Viaduct. On Sunday, August 31, 2025, NJ Transit Train 72 was powered by NJTR 4210 (GP40PH-2B, Erie Railroad Heritage). Upon its inception, Metro-North assumed responsibility for the West of Hudson commuter lines, abandoning the Main Line, and moving the trains to the Graham Line between Highland Mills and Guymard, New York on April 18, 1983. Significant reasons for this change to the line designed by Erie's chief engineer, James Graham, included that there are no grade crossings on this section, and its grade and curves are appreciably more gradual than the Main Line. While the Main Line did go straight through the population centers, this caused trains to operate at much slower speeds and limited the amount of land around stations that would be available for parking lots and other passenger amenities. Perhaps one of the most iconic locations to shoot this heritage locomotive on its home rails, waiting for this train on a cool late summer morning was a great way to start a beautiful Sunday.
