Years ago, the Rhaetian Railway used the slogan “Die kleine Rote” (The Little Red One) in its advertising, and even today the trains are generally bright red. One of the exceptions is the so-called “ancestral train” ABe 8/12 # 3514, which has been in service since December 2023 and bears the colors of its predecessor railways in memory of them. The first car body is painted in the yellow of the formerly (until 1943) independent Bernina Railway, the second in the green/cream used by the Rhaetian Railway at the time, and the third in a light blue/light gray like the vehicles of the former Chur-Arosa Railway (ChA), which was independent until 1942. The “Allegra” ABe 8/12 # 3514 pulls the PE 952 BERNINA EXPRESS from Tirano via the Bernina and Albula lines to Chur, leaving the Landwasser Tunnel from the vertical rock face to cross the curved 65-meter-high Landwasser Viaduct.
