Remarks & Notes
“Glass Out Heritage on the Sunrise Trail”

As the sun begins to rise from behind a cloud shelf on August 22nd, 2025, Long Island Rail Road SW1001 #101 idles in the siding at LD, as "Greenport Scoot" Train 903, led by a Kawasaki C3 cab car, passes on its arrival at the station in Riverhead, New York on the Main Line. The end-cab switcher, which is normally confined to yard and west end operations, was brought out east to be displayed for the Railroad Museum of Long Island’s "Riverhead Railfest" weekend.

New York & Atlantic Railway EMD SW1001 #101 (serial/frame number 766042-2, EMD order number 766042) is a 1,000-horsepower switcher built by Electro-Motive Division in March 1977 for the Long Island Rail Road, entering service as LI 101. It was leased to the New York & Atlantic Railway when the company took over Long Island Freight operations in 1997, retaining its number as NYA 101, and continued to serve reliably in yard and local freight service across Long Island (mainly Queens & Brooklyn). In early June 2025, the 101 was carefully repainted and decaled, by hand, into its original as-delivered factory LIRR scheme by NYA’s mechanical team, assisted by a dedicated group of NYA and LIRR railroaders and historically inclined professionals.
