Remarks & Notes
Reading & Northern #2102 heads south near Glen Onoko Falls on the evening of June 21, 2025 with a roundtrip excursion from Nesquehoning to Tunkhannock, PA. #2102 is about to cross over the Lehigh River. 109 miles long, the Lehigh River is an anglicized name for "Lechewuekink", meaning "where there are forks" a name originally given to the river by the Lenape, an indigenous group of people who lived in the northeastern woodlands of the U.S. The Lehigh River's upper course is characterized by numerous whitewater rapids and supports a broad range of recreational activities including whitewater rafting, kayaking and canoeing. Its lower course forms the Lehigh Valley which is the heart of PA's historical anthracite coal mining and eastern steel making industry.
