| Although I had seen pictures of the mountain railroading around Tehachapi but it was truly amazing to see in person just how steep the grades are. The dynamics are screaming to hold back this rack train as it passes through tunnel 5 at Cliff and approaches tunnel 3 at Bealville.
If you look closely next to the lead autorack you can see the remnants of tunnel 4 which was so heavily damaged in the 1952 earthquake that the railroad dug out the mountain and daylighted the new path. |
