My father had a LP record called "Valley of the Steam Locomotives", which featured different NdeM steam locomotives. Sometimes when mom and my sisters were out of the house for a while, my dad would play the record on his large stereo and crank up the volume. Many 4-8-4s can be heard on the record, like NdeM 3033 and NdeM 3047. This handsome 4-8-4, number 3036, was built for the Nacionales de Mexico Railroad. According to the specifications listed on the back of the builder's card, the engine and tender had a total weight of 635,000 lbs., and it had a tractive force of 57,000 lbs. This Baldwin Locomotive Works builders photo card is from the John R. Doughty collection.
Dedicated to my father, John Robert Doughty, Sr., and to his great uncle, Robert F. McKee, Sr., who worked at the Baldwin Locomotive Works as a design engineer, including working on the design for the Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range Railway 2-8-8-4 Yellows
