During the early morning hours of October 11th, 2023, Kawasaki Heavy Industries technicians are already hard at work just moments after the first Kawasaki built MTA Staten Island Railway R211S, SIR 100, was delivered to the railway's Clifton Shops. Sitting next to the R211S is a St. Louis Car Company built R44S, which will eventually face retirement. The 5-car R211S pilot set (SIR 100-104) performed several initial tests on the New York City Transit system and once on the island, will perform similar tests before entering revenue service.
